    Question Painting floorboards??

    Hello Everyone,

As you can guess I am a new member. I have been following and reading the forum. It has very good information for who wants to fix things around the house by themselves. I am one of them.

I am thinking to remove vinyl flooring out of the kitchen and sunroom of the 50yrs old wheatherboard house and want to paint the floors in white. What sort of paint and sealer shoud I use?

Thank you in advance for your advice and suggestions!

    Cheers,

My boss has done this in his place, looks very cool! very laura ashley (check out the web site for some pics) he tells me the only paint to use is boat paint ... Not sure if there is more to it than that but if you give the guys at whitworths a call they have probably heard about it b4 and might b able to advise you, I always go to whitworths at crows nest and those guys are pretty cluey on most things ... good luck with it!

    Hi All

I beg to differ with Angeliques boss as boat paint is designed to have very high ultra violet (UV) protection and not to be walked on; also its usually overpriced.

IMHO opinion there are two approaches worth pursuing:

    * Polyurethane (eg Estapol) with the two-pot still being slightly better than the one-pot version.

    * Paving paint or factory floor paint (a tougher version of paving paint.) This is very inexpensive and designed to be constantly driven over by fork lift trucks.

Neither require a special sealer. Just remove all taces of vinyl glue and sand to a good finish, then paint on three or even four coats to get a good build-up of pigment. The extra coat will greatly extend the time to the next repainting and is really worthwhile.

    Cheers

    Graeme
