    Default verandah railing and posts

Im just working out my timber railings for the verandahs.
would you put a post, at the end of the railing where it meets the corner of the wall? maybe just to railing height rather than to the verandah beam.

also, what are the advantages/disadvantages (Im not going to ask which is better) of hardwood over pine for the railings and balusters. ive seen some pine balusters which have warped and looked horible.

    cheers

Hardwood is better, pine is cheaper -end of story. Give me a PM if you want some interesting posts and rails.

On the wall, a half post to 50-100mm above the rail looks nice. Agree with Exador, hardwood over pine, but hardwood is more expensive in material and labour (hand nailing). Pink-prime pine must also be re-primed before a topcoat is applied or you will shorten the life of the paint (peels).

    Cheers
    Michael
