Lou and Groggy, I remember Walget well, went to that same pub upon arrival at about 8.00pm, big walloper grabbed me as I was entering and told to 'bugger orf', I started to offer some reistance and he escorted me to the front of the premises where a Ford F100 with a cage was parked, about ten seconds later half a dozen of his mates started to fill the cage with the contents of the pub.
When this was done he politely advised me to becareful in these parts and go to Lightning Ridge if I wanted a meal, decent accommodation and to keep my then new 4WD.
I heeded his friendly advice and departed.
Shortly after that we arrived in Dirrambandee (sp) and got cut off by floods for just over a week, lived in a local pub with a few other castaways on a staple diet of bacon, eggs, tomatoes and sausages, because that was all they had until supplies arrived.
It was OK but we never touched any of those things again for a few months after.
As for Macca's, was in Kamchatyka for a couple of weeks fishing, lived on Reindeer for most of that time and the cook was bloody awful, never heard of a BBQ (tale a piece of reindeer rump, boil for 30 minutes, served with army style cabbage ).
Bit remiscent of Grandma's boiled mince, yeccchhh.
When we hit Alaska Maccas was the first place we all went toStupidity kills. Absolute stupidity kills absolutely.

The motel we stayed in was run by a one armed man, but he did a mean brekkie.

worst take food would have to go to a place in Bondi just up from the beach it was some kind of African style shop which had big day beds and lots of salads that were full of beans of some type. Well me and my old man where doing the rounds checking out our jobs and where on the way from Bondi to Coogee so we jumped out to grap someting to eat on the way past.
Got some chicken rap thing, looked alright my old man was eating away while i was on the phone then i looked down at the wrap and it was moving there where some little bug things in the chicken.
Not good at all. YUK YUK
Also Mac's at ST PETERS in syd on Princess HWY is crap does not taste like the standard Mac's.

Wilcannia
One of the scariest experiences I've had in daylight hours.
HWMBO and I were driving through Wilcannia about 10 am or so on the way to Adelaide with B-double load of watermelons. Naturally, I'm rubber necking happily away when HWMBO grabs my arm and reefs me around to face the road - "DON'T LOOK AT ANYTHING OR ANYONE, DON'T EVEN TURN YOUR HEAD OR SOMETHING WILL END UP COMING THRU THE WINDOW AT YOU"
Scared the truckin heck out of me, cause it was true, based on his stories and the news reports about the place around that time.
Best Steak I ever had was two days later at the Cavern in Adelaide, 2 inches thick on one end and half an inch thick on the other and both ends hung over the edge of the huge plate - so you got well done on one end and running away at the other end! Perfect!!!! I ate every bit!!!! and couldn't move after that
Cheers

I reckon the locals went there just to wear their clothes out.

Best fish and chips shop, by a mile, is Flaky Jakes in Carrum Downs.
Second, but still a stand out is the Jolly Roger in Newport.
Worst. Anything in Cobram after 8pm. They're all closed except the pizza shops. Is there anything easier done than said?- Stacky. The bottom pub, Cobram.

I think any rural Chinese would qualify as woprst take away. There's one particular shocker on Pac Highway going out of Tarre to the North. Food is completely non identifiable.
Another is a Chinese place out of Huskisson. I took my young son camping (his idea not mine. I think camping is when room service is late). We went to eat in at this place. Meals were served on flat dinner plates with knives and forks. We asked for chopsticks and bowls and got real funny looks. They didn't have any. Not an oriental in the place, cooks, waiters, no-one.
I'm sure it couldn't have survivedBodgy
