A few Whys
So yesterday 6/6/06 wasn’t the end of the world. It really got me to think why we human being are so dumb.
Why is the number 666 so significant? What if our entire number system was based 5 or binary? 666 would have been 10131 or 101001101 then should we rewrite the bible?
Why is 6/6/2006 the end of the world not 6/6/1996?
What if we had 6 months a year not 12? The end of the world would be in the middle of the third month 2006.
In which time zone does the end of the start? New Zealand? (It probably has started there already. )
When is it on the Chinese calendar? Somewhere in August 2002?
Why if you multiple your age by your street number plus your phone number minus the number of your hair = 666 then it is bad?
Why do UFOs always look like a dish?
Why aliens always have to look like human. 2 big eyes, 2 big ears, 2 arms and 2 legs. (excludes the ones in the Sampsons )
Why do they call it fun run when running is not fun?
Why isn’t Collingwood at the bottom of the table?

It depends which side of the table you sit at 666 for some and 999 for others

666 has nothing to do with the date, Mr Wong. It is the number of the beast. You know, from the Iron Maiden song:
"Woe to you, oh earth and sea, for the devil sends the beast with wrath, for he knows the time is short. Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the beast, for it is a human number. Its number is six hundred and sixty six."
Man is 5, the devil is 6 and god is 7. Didn't they teach you anything in Sunday School?"I don't practice what I preach because I'm not the kind of person I'm preaching to."

The answer, from that great Biblical show (Life of Brian) 'Because it is written'.
No need for any other explanation.
Why is it when we are 6 months old and burp it is cute and everyone is happy, when we are 5 and burp we get a smack around the ear?Stupidity kills. Absolute stupidity kills absolutely.

Maybe it is in the Monkey version of Revelations
In the Iron Maiden version, as quoted by Vincent Price (and you KNOW it has to be right) it's six hundred and sixty six
Apparently, because God is 7, and there are three bits of him, his number is 777. Because 7 is the perfect number, right? And so 6 is below perfect, you with me? So 666 is completely imperfect. Or something. I forget that bit..."I don't practice what I preach because I'm not the kind of person I'm preaching to."

I hereby declare you too much of a maths nerd for this thread
It's the perfect number, signifying perfection, not a perfect number signifying some nerdy maths thing.
You should have paid more attention in Scripture classes instead of dreaming about playing basketball.
Sure you're not a hexakosioihexekontahexaphobe?

Actually, the original biblical referance had it as 616 but the council that prepared the first bible thought it looked better if it was 666 and because that council was inspired by God, the change stood.
True ... or so a bod on another list claims

Other early Greek copies including the Oxyrhynchus papyri show the number of the beast to be 616, “χιϛ´”, instead of 666. ι and ξ can be similar in appearance and one may be an erroneous copy of the other.[citation needed] Historians continue to argue which was the original.[4] English translations usually give the number as 666."I don't practice what I preach because I'm not the kind of person I'm preaching to."
