What is Midge?

The recent thread about it being to cold to work in the shed had got me wondering what Midge is.

Don't be harsh on the old fella...I've heard that the temperature on the Sunshine Coast can absolutely plummet... 18-19degrees is not unheard of in the depths of Winter !
