Default Help removing a gas fire.

Im trying to remove a gas fire from the living room and have tryed cutting of the gas supply to it by screwing the screw down in the chrome plated elbow, but it does not seem to stop the flow.
    Am I doing something wrong?

Yes, get a plumber or gasfitter in to do the job. That way it is done correctly.
