I have been following this discussion with some interest. As a pharmacist may I venture some information.
The side effects listed on medication sheets are there because at some stage someone has experienced them. It may have only been one person who suffered the effect in testing but the drug companies list them all to protect their backsides- it does not mean that all people are going to suffer any or all of the side effects.
If we all read everything about any drug we would probably never take anything - it really is a case of the potential benefit over-riding possible side effects
If anyone is bothered by any side effect they should return to Dr and discuss it. Unfortunately with blood pressure medication it is often necessary to try 2 or 3 different drugs before finding one that really suits a particular person.
Lifestyle will certainly help (watching weight and diet, regular exercise etc) but often it is necessary to resort to medication for long-time control thus hopefully preventing strokes, heart attacks etc.
Hope that helpsTom

Good call again.
Me again, yep Im still breathing.
Here is the latest.
I told my brickie partner about the visit to the Doctors, and the list of side affects.
He is 22 years old.
I mainly had worrys about what to do with him in regards to our working relationship, he was bugging me so much I was going to end the partnership even though he is a top bloke and a bloody hard worker.
Lately he has been goofing off and leaving all the hard work to me, repetedly I have had to tell to watch his quality, if the quality slips we have to redo the work.
Time and time I told him, last week Id had enough of him being "spaced" out.
He would come to work, but he wasnt there if you know what I mean?
Today at smoko I showed him the list of side affects that are possible from the tablets.
So hes sitting there reading them, then he started saying, yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, yep.
What are you saying yep too said I?
Then he tells me he has been taking the same tablets for the last year.
The only side affect he didnt suffer was the dioreah (sp, I know its wrong)
He would hear me and not know what I said, he thought he was laying the bricks alright.
He then said he stopped taking them last tuesday because he had "lost" time when he was on them.
So its seems I was right in not taking the pills for a minor increase in blood preasure.
Since he told me why he was, but wasnt there, all my worrys have gone.
Cheers, Al

Dont be a dill, take the pill
Al you are 51, not 22, its not a fair comparison.but think about it, you work with this bloke and you didnt even know he was on the medication. i bet a lot more of your friends than you think are on blood pressure medication or some other medication, and you just didnt know it, particularly friends around our age and older. take the pill and see if you get the side effects, if so tell the doc and get a different kind, repeat as necessary.
Dont be a dill, take the pill
so what medication is everyone on? I take avapro and lipitor. lets all come clean and show Al he is in good company
