Scooter, if you have a good grinder you should try roasting your own beans. You can get great beans for $16.00/kilo or less. Roasting can be done in a drum on the BBQ, or in a cheapo popcorn maker, or in a colander with a hot air gun. Takes 15 minutes or so, and after a day to settle, you will be in coffee heaven. The beans really peak in flavour from day 2 or 3, then fade out to stale crap after a week. Grinding makes them go stale in less than a minute, but you need a really good espresso maker to make the most fresh coffee.

Even $16.00/kilo is outrageous though, as the farmers are lucky to get $5.00 of that.

Gregoryq, agree with the home roasted, have done a bit in the popcorn maker. Few early duds but got the hang & did it for a while, but only bother occassionally now.

Mostly buy the ground stuff from the supermarket, either Coffex Superbar or another, Oro I think it's called.

Can remember the first roast I tried in the oven, stunk the house out

Yeah, $50 was pretty funny, not sure whether he was trying to scare me off, finance his early retirement, or a bit of both

    Cheers.................Sean, second crack

Teas: Russain Caravan almost any time, Jasmine with chinese food, Earl or Lady Grey occasionally, English Breakfast.

Instant coffee: Nescafe Alta Rica, the only one that actually tastes like real coffee.

Chocolate: Vittoria Chocochino, and love a really strong Ovaltine once every now and then (even better still leave out the liquid and just eat the powder).
Comfort drink: Warm malted milk - great at bedtime excellent comfort food. Yum

Türk kahvesi, but only boil the ibrik 3 times... a 4th is for the wussies in café bars.

Guaranteed to start the day with a bit of oomph.
