A nice piece of history, and one that I hope continues.
I wonder why the prohibition on modern utlilites (eg mobile phone), and going even close to their home town?

Anyway, it appears someone has unhijacked this thread again.
It certainly does look like an interesting thing that might be seen in Germany. As for why no modern conveniences - I would guess that it is a gimmick.
