If you have sand subgrade, as is pretty likely, don't worry about roadbase. When I was in WA I laid 150sq.m of pavers on the driveway, garage and rear deck areas with no more preparation than cleaning off the grass that was growing , loosening and recompacting the sand and levelling. No movement, no settlement, no hassles. The only time you need a subbase for your pavers is when you have a clay soil, soil high in organics or a wet area. Perthians are lucky that way.

    Hi Black1,

I have worked for Australia's largest manufacturer of paving for a many years, and without fail the major reason for pavements performing poorly is sub-standard base preparation. Make the base right, the pavers will be fine.

Like everything, the preparation is the most important thing. The pavers are really only window dressing; the real work is below the ground.

Can I suggest you check ou the following site:

    http://www.pghclay.com.au/brochure/P...ng%20Guide.pdf

PGH know a little about paving, as does the Midland guys over in WA. They are at Middle Swan if you need to contact them. Their web site has some info:

    http://www.midlandbrick.com.au/broch...riveways&scr=1

Between these companies you will be able to find the information to construct a path that will last for many years.

Any more information, just PM me.

    Anthony
