regardless of the fact that it was the common consensus of the forum as a whole that people reached the levels they did, many felt tha t the system had become imbalanced, and from mmy lofty perch in the top 20 of the forum i have to say i agree. with something approaching 400 rep altering points at my command , it wasnt like the old days where you just click the scales and type a quick message. i remember it took me several months to get all teh green lights on back then, and now ive seen someone do that with just one post!
like it or not the rep system is part of the furniture in here and sometimes the furniture needs repairing and thats what the admin and moderators have taken on as their thankless jobs (Thanks ,Guys, doing a wonderful job as always). by all means Clinton, turn yours off, thats your right, but I for one am looking to see what effect teh changes have on the system and am hoping that it will once again be a useful tool on the forum.
Thanks Neil and your team for all the hard work and for listening to the concerns of the members.

This will be the last post from me in this thread about the rep points.
A newbie has but 250 points to begin with, this equates to 1 point of reputation he can hand out.
As Doug said "like a spitball hitting a battleship" What I have done will hopefully make it more equitable for all.
Gumby - (just using you as an example) Yesterday 1 negative hit from you (what you all call A RED) would have wiped a newbie of all his points and put him 150 into the red taking away his ability to respond (not that he could have as he had to 20 posts before he could hit back). Currently you give only 41 points and would have to give credit to 20 more posters over the following 48 hrs before giving another to him. This might hopefully act as a cooling down period and give the newbie time to explain or clarify their situation, etc. (Example ended)
Yes he could hit back with his almighty 1 point, but that is highly unlikely because for starters he wouldn't have a clue what the hell rep points are. Lets face it most of you took a while to figure it out, if at all. Many still don't use them or want to have anything to do with them as they are far more interested in the woodwork.
It appears on the whole, that members use the points as they were intended. However there have been numerous times when it has got a bit out of hand, with pathetic tit for tat school yard retaliations. Not really fair especially when some members could hand out over 500 positive or negative points in 1 hit.
Lets leave it to it's own devices and and see how the new points system works out. If anyone feels the need to hand out a heap of reds to a newbie who is posting spam or causing problems, or similar, how about reporting the post and letting admin or mods sort it out, if indeed it needs sorting out in the first place.
Cheers - Neil

Or, we could get the big kids to go round and knock his vegemite sandwich out of his hand at little lunch.
Boring signature time again!
