We have a miniature fox terrier that loves cats, and the bits she doesn't she leaves in the paddock
Unfortunately she chases and occassionally catches low flying birds, quick little buggers.

I now have a cat sized hole in my back yard "for planting some palms" . waiting.... waiting... wating....

Zed, take a drive up to the Central Coast and I'll lend you my cat trap. My yard is a bird sanctuary too and any cat that comes into my yard is fair game. Straight to the pound without collar, and always after hours so they get left in the stray cat cage. Eleven and counting.

I just got sick of seeing dead birds (or parts of) in my backyard, so I chose sides and the birds won. Seed and nectar for the parrots, bread for the Aussie Mynahs, mince for the Magpies and Peewees, a bit of everything for the Doves and Native pigeons. Banishment for the cats.

I used to be an ardent cat hater. After I met SWMBO, who had a cat I guess I kind of came to like them. At Christmas eve several years ago we had a phonecall from the girl looking after him that he'd been run over because she did not bring him in in the afternoon. Its then I realised it was a bit more than 'kind of liked' the poor bugger. We have two cats now, both have 3 or 4 bells on their collars and are curfewed to daylight. Mostly they still hang around the house and sleep. What I'm getting to is its the owners responsibility to limit their cat's impact, its not the cats fault its just doing what comes naturally. The cat definitely deserves to be treated humanely, string up or poison the bloody owner. Capture the cat and take it to the pound where at least it will get a painless death, or if you're in the bush, despatch it with a bullet. As SWMBO says mistreating or torturing animals is where the problems of the world begin. Making sure the cat is inside a hessian bag with a brick before you throw it into the pool is also preferable to an agonising death from paracetamol.

Especially if you throw the mongrel into a large pond at the nearby monastery. Sort of drowning it in holy water.

A relative of mine who lives in a small town run cat traps for years in his backyard. This is a town of a bit over 1500 people. In one year he trapped and dispatched 167 cats. We were at the ranger's place for a christmas barbie and the local copper was there. My relative asked the copper and ranger if there had been any reports of missing cats.....Not one. Cats, foxes, rabbits and politicians...all vermin.

I pulled up the neighbour again yeserday and told him his frigging cat was stalking in me yard again and he asked "what is he supposed to do about it?" so I answered "Modern schools of thought say that cats should be enclosed in enclosures, keep it out of my yard" all deadpan with a benign smile..... I'll let you know mate.
