    Default Most recent New post

I use the New Posts function to see what post have been added recently to be various forums in which I am interested.

Often these are threads that have been running for quite a while and the most useful function is the View First Unread. However, my understanding is that this function can only be used by opening the first page of the relevant thread.

Is there any way that it can be done directly from the list of new posts ?
    Cheers

I never use that 'view first unread' facility, in fact I didn't even know it was there. I just use the New Posts button and click on the last post of any thread I'm interested in. I can scroll back from there if needed.
If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

Click on the down arrow on the left of the post title. That will take you direct to the first unread post and if you use the shift right click it will open in a new window leaving your search results intact.

New posts the view first unread for me.

Gotta remember that view first unread counts from the last time you logged on, not neccasarily the last time you looked at that thread.
    Boring signature time again!

Just click on the little brown arrow in the list of threads to go directly to the first unread post. In Firefox ctrl-click opens it in a new tab.
