    Default finish for black japan

Can anyone tell me what finish to use over black japan stain? Bearing in mind that I'm a total amateur and will completely ruin anything that requires precision work.

I've managed to sand and stain my bed and it looks great but i think it needs something extra. Im not after a high gloss finish. Any suggestions?

    Check out this site:

They recommend their product to cover their Black Japan.

I like the Feast and Watson Floorseal.
It is tung oil based and gives a tough low sheen finish.

It is easy to apply with a brush.

The only thing F&W say not to do is use a moisture curing polyurethane or two part polyurethane.

Any oil finish should be OK-Danish Oil, Livos Kunos oil and they give good finishes.
I find that some of the stain is removed when applying the finish coats but not enough to be noticeable.

Test a scrap first if you want to be safe but you shouldn't have any problems.
