Ubeauts traditional wax
I have yet a few more questions regarding ubeauts traditional wax. ( i think they will ban me soon )
I have applied 4 coats of shellac over the peices of timber i wish to wax. I have sanded in between coats but not for the last one.
After reading Neils book he suggests that before applying the wax to shellac, sand back the timber with a 400 grit then a 600 grit sand paper, using water and a little detergent.
My first question:
Doesn't water make shellac turn white? I thought mixing water and shellac is a big no no.
Second question:
What is the purpose of sanding back the timber before waxing? Wont this make the shellac lose its shine?
Im not dissagreeing with Neil at all, just want to know the reason behind it all. For those who havent purchased neils book yet you dont know what your missing!
Thanks for the help

Tampering with evidence, Mr P? We've got you bang to rights, I'd say
Joseph, if Neil says it's OK to do it, it's OK to do it. Regarding losing the shine of the shellac, the wax will put that back again. You need to sand it so that the surface is as smooth as possible before applying the wax. I use 2 or 3 coats of his sanding sealer, which I presume is shellac based."I don't practice what I preach because I'm not the kind of person I'm preaching to."
