Can I just say, in support of the pro-searchers here, that, just on a whim you understand, I did a search on FUTTOCK - and, to my surprise, I FOUND IT - it was mentioned in a thread started in April last year (I haven't worked out how to link to threads yet), and although it didn't tell me what it meant, it gave me a clue, and now I will never forget that it refers to one of the crooked timbers which are scarfed together to form the lower part of the compound rib of a vessel or one of the crooked transverse timbers passing across and over the keel. :eek:

Thanks for the well wishes guys. She caught a viral infection and that upset the balance in her diabetes control. After a few days of not getting better I took her to Emergency and today she is feeling much better and we hope that she will be home by Wednesday/Thursday.

I wasn't going to post about her, but as Termite said, this board, whilst important, is not the end of the world. There are more important things in this world. And as I said the humour on the board last night made me laugh, so let it continue.

As a newbie to the board perhaps I can add a newbie's view.

Sometimes a question that someone has may appear (to the asker) to be trivial. But the point is that the asker doesn't always know that hence prefaces the question with "this might be a silly question but......"

It might be a silly question but if the level of knowledge is low then how would they know? It seems like a way to say "Look, I don't know a great deal about this, but would appreciate some help".

It is to your collective credit that in most cases the question is answered.

There is a great deal of information here in the heads of quite a few people who have been around a while and obviously know each other quite well. That can be a little intimidating for the thousands of lurkers who dont post.

That said, I think this would be the most approachable board I have used - much in part to the humour and good nature of the participants.

But I do agree with Sturdee on the search - it is a valuable tool for discovering a wealth of information (until the inevitable hijack). People contribute out of their goodwill and I for one certainly appreciate that. I consider it more a courtesy to those who do regularly post and help the noobs that a search may not clog the board with repetitive posts. Although for a true newbie perhaps they don't always know the correct terminology to search for. Just a thought.
