The builder came around with the quote last night and it came to $70K. That's for a 10m x 4.8m garage (all brick) , doors at either end, a 10m x 4m veranda above the garage, extending existing roof by 4m and a staircase at the rear for access to the veranda. Price also includes all finishing off and tiling for the veranda, stainless steel cable fence at either end topped in timber with a timber screen the full length of the veranda. What do ya reckon?

OK looks like the planning permission is about to come through for the extension, went with the quote described previously in this thread.
Once complete I'll have a garage measuring approx 4.8m x 9m and I now need to start thinking about how to set it up.
The first picture is the blank canvas...
My wife wants to put her car in the smaller of the two garages which means I'll have to put my tinny in the larger one which limits storage etc.
One thing I would like is a long bench along one wall as per the second attachment with Chop Saw, Bench Drill press etc and a straight edge running the full length of the bench, any thoughts on this welcome.

My suggestion
Great plan but I reckon this looks better.
First, dump the missus and give her the shopping trolley (tiny car).
Then, put the washing machine in the bathroom, put the tinny where the ex's car was.
Then put your dust collector and timber stock in the ex laundry and use the space formerly occupied by the tinny as a much bigger workshop.
Then put a fishing rod rack where you have the Triton timber rack. The bonus is that you can put your beer fridge next to the rod rack.If you never made a mistake, you never made anything!

HH,
is it possible, headroom-wise to hoist the boat up to the rafters to make more space? When I had a boat I used to wheel it out of my workshop in order to work. Bit of a pain, especially when the weather was good .

Unfortunately not Mick, I will be wheeling the boat out when I need the room although it's easy to move around by hand as it's pretty light on the trailer.
Sorry Shedhand gotta keep the missus, who'll look after the kids so I can spend time in the workshop
