installing new split aircon system DIY
Could anyone tell me the method of bleeding the air out of the system, in my outdoor unit there are 2 pipes, one is big and one is small. I dont know which one is the liquid pipe or the gas pipe. where in melbourne i can buy all the needed gear to get this aircon running ( copper pipe, insulation etc..)
many thanks,
jolybean

Bleeding the system is not a good method, you will let some of the refrigerant escape to atmosphere, which is illegal, and there is also a good chance that you will not have the right charge left in the system.
Beside this there will still be moisture left in the system.
Your best bet is to try to get some one to vacuum it out for you.
The liquid line is the smaller of the two, gas is the larger.
I wouldn't recommend using plumbing grade copper which is commonly avaliable at hardware stores, it is not seamless copper or of refrigeration grade.
If you want to comple as much as you can of the installation yourself you can buy all the things you need from Heatcraft.
You will need a 45 degree flare tool, don't use a hammer type which is commonly used by plumbers, a cheap one will cost around $60
Also you will need a tube cutter, a cheap one will cost around $20-30

They don't regulate refrigerant licenses for HVAC technicians for nothing...

Still better to get refrig. copper though. Some of the larger Air con companies would sell you some.
Hope this helps
