    Cool I'm Back!!

I'm back from my trip to New Zealand. Good or bad, I don't know yet
Looks like theres been a lot of good discussion while I've been away. Shame it will take me a while to catch up

Marcus, Hows that table going? give us an update mate. I am sure you will love to see the end of that one!

Well I picked up a lot of ideas on my trip, one of which I want to explore in depth. Could lead to a profitable sideline ( hah! sure sure ). But if nothing else it should be interesting. It invloves the use of laser in carving. Anyone have any experience with this method? Obviously the use of a laser will restrict the carving to flat surface only. But I saw it used greatly in the idea of using the laser to burn ( maybe I shouldn't be using the term Carve?? ) corprate logo's etc into small timber ornaments and used as corparate gifts etc. Very affective and could lead to endless possibilities. I saw a lot of examples using this technique too many to explain. But was just wondering if anyone had had any experience with it.

I also visited a few rather good furniture manufactures. They use a lot of timber called RIMU - which I believe is a pine of somesort but has a rather nice grain pattern and colour. It polishes up quite nicely.

It seems the kiwis do things very similarly to us except when it comes to cricket

But I don't want to bore you all with the wonderful time I had, so I will leave it there!

    Cheers

    Shane....

    Talking

You were away for a while Shane I'll bet those sheep were starting to look pretty good towards the end.

There is quite a lot of the laser stuff done in Victoria. Corporate gifts, signs, wooden business cards, etc.

Wouldn't think it would be too cheap to set up, but could be great fun. The possabilities are almost limitless.

Mean while I am having fun with my new laser. Now I can save my backups to CD instead of those bloody slow old Zip disks.

Glad you had a great time. Welcome back.

    Cheers
    Neil
