    Arrow Polishing Questions

I have just restored an antique blanket box.

Sealed with two coats of Feast Watson Proof Sealer and then 2 of Fine Buffing Oil.

My questions for you gurus are:

    1. What do I buff the oil with. Everything I use leave crappy bits of lint etc on the surface and I have to lightly sand and redo.

    2. Should I use a wax over the top? If so which U-Beaut product is recommended?

    3. When the instructions say use a rough cloth to "tack up". What should i use?

    4. What about for final polishing??? I tried a t-shirt but stuffed the surface even worse trying to get a "lusture" out of the oil.

Thanks in advance for your guidance

Have a read through the products suggested in the rest of Neils site.

I would suggest a swansdown mop for the application of your final finish. This should answer 1 and 4.

Question 2, I would apply a wax over the top if it were my project (not bees wax), just the traditional wax.

    Stinky.

No need to wax because there is wax mixed with the oil.

After applying let it soak into the timber a bit, about 10-20mins later wipe off any excess (old work shirt, calico). During the wait after applying it will go a bit sticky, ie tacked up. If you wait too long it will get real sticky and hang onto any lint that can be pulled off the rag.

After the oil is dry (the next day) there will be a layer of wax on the surface which is best buffed with one of U-Beauts Swansdown mops (saves a lot of rubbing).

If there is still not enough lustre then an extra coat of wax, as stinky suggested, should give better results.
