Houn Pine and Red Cedar Box
Hi,
Just new here and fairly new to the woodworking scene.
I am in the process of making a Huon Pine and Red Cedar jewellery box for my wife and would like to know the best product(s) to finish it off with.
The 2 long sides are red cedar while the 2 short and top and bottom are Huon. I have sanded it progressively down to 1200 grit. Just in putting in some stay hinges at the moment.
I have read about the Organoil - Burnishing Oil, and the Ubeaut Shellawax.
I, like the others wish to keep the colour and aroma if possible.
Thanks.

It depends on what dort of finish you desire. High gloss, sheen or matt etc.
I like them in high gloss so i suggest Hard Shellac - that's what i do mine in. But just a few coats of wax looks nice as a sheen type finish. Or shellac, then wax to dull it down a bit.
It's all trial and error. You should get Neil's Handbook from the Ubeaut website. It gives all the options. If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

Any finish will seal the aroma so you won't smell it unless you leave the inside raw.
