shreiking tap
Man, it is driving me spare. Every time I turn on the tap, it sounds like banshees are having a party in the faucet (sorry to use american terminology - I mean the bit where the water comes out).
Any ideas on how to fix it? A mate said it is probably air in the pipes?
It is not a mixer tap - It has a 180 degree bend (or near enough) with an aerator on the end. The noise varies a bit with the pressure but is consistently loud.
Advice from learned ones would be appreciated.

The noise is often because the valve (ie. washer) is oscillating as the water rushes through.
If you take the valve out, flatten the end of the stem a little so it is a snug fit when it goes back into the end of the spindle, it will stop it oscillating and the noise should stop.
Often referred to as "peining" or "peening" the valve.
