Cabinet box
I made this for my brother's 70th birthday. Combined two Woodsmith plans by scaling back a jewelry box and using another for the lid. As is usual in my experience (why do i never learn?) the lid pattern had been incorrectly converted to metric by Woodsmith Australia, and when I came to cut the tiles found they didn't fit. Had to recompute the angles (good old high school trigonometry!)

Wow that’s stunning! What Timbers did you use?
Well executed!
Cheers

Looks great Chris, he's going to be happy with that.
I, too, am interested in the timbers used and also wondering what the lining is - guessing suede or felt but can't tell from the pics.Cheers, Bob the labrat
Measure once and.... the phone rings!

The box carcass is made from fiddleback redgum. The light tiles are birdseye Maple, the dark ones are Jarrah and the intermediate ones are forest redgum.
The linings are felt.
the inserts are Huon pine.
Thanks for your comments.

Yes, he was very happy. But his wife makes jewelry and was eyeing it jealously!

Nice work. The Huon is the perfect colour for dividers.

Thanks. I gave him some uncut spares in case he wants to subdivide or rearrange.

I forgot to take a photo of the handmade wooden hinges. They are the same as on this earlier box.

Great box - lots of ideas for a fertile box-making mind.
Conversions of US drawn plans can be problematic, even doing if you do your own and rounding to nearest 0.5mm .

I'll do better than Australian Woodsmith most days!
Thanks for the kind words.

Very effective and well executed build. Are they little radii on all the edges of the segments?
