Yemen orthapedic Doctor
So my friend connected with an entity on facebook claiming to be a orthapedic doctor from Yemen
He's been romancing her for a few months now.
Wants to send her $1.5 million U.S.
Reason...there are no banks in Yemen to process the money(given to him by the U.S government for his good work at the hospital )😆
He has offered to send the money to her in a locked box
Yep...$1.5 million
I have stated unequivocally to her that I believe it's a scam
People simply don't send vast sums of money overseas in a box!
Or do they?
Thoughts welcome

SCAM!
Its a variation of the Nigerian Prince / Unexpected Money type scams. Unexpected money | Scamwatch
The next step will be that she will have to forward a "processing fee" etc.Last edited by Mobyturns; 30th November 2023 at 10:07 AM. Reason: grammar

Absolutely a scam! I work for a company and we do business and build plants all over the world, including that part. There is always a way to transfer money. If not, then it is illegal, and you do not want to get involved anyway. Further, I am also sure it is illegal to post big amounts of cash without declaring it.
As said before the next is they ask for money in some way.
But here is a little thing to giggle at least. Although it is sad how many people still fall for that stuff. Make sure your friend doesn't.

One other possibility is that the sender is looking to groom potential "money mules" to launder proceeds of crime cash. Criminal syndicates search for prospective candidates by offering a lure, then switch the bait.
Highly illegal!

Convinced my friend that she was being scammed
A report was submitted by her to the relevant authority
(Didn't ask which one)
She was very upset as she had exchanged personal information to this scammer over past few months
A wake up call NOT to trust everyone on social media!

One thing worth mentioning is that the scammer had multiple Facebook profiles(same name though).
Guessing he stole someone elses identity
Frightening stuff really

There are banks in Yemean, thank you Aunt Google.
Scammer need to be worried,as the world becomes smaller an more an more connected, it won’t be long a reckon before scammers start getting knocks on there doors, an there will be a few people(police) turning a blind eye when it does.
Cheers Matt.

Suggested this to D1 & SIL who are involved fairly deeply in computer security, and was told that it was happening in some parts of the world. Scam the wrong people with the right contacts and you may well have a very short career. There are some very wealthy people with access to lots of resources, and they didn't get that way by sticking to the letter of the law.
