I just thought that the design of Pedulla's gantry system seemed so minimalistically simple.

You may be right, Pippin, but I suspect that producing YouTube product is now Nick Padulla's main occupation and income source. If he makes a piece of furniture he gets paid once. If he produces a successful YouTube video then he gets paid repeatedly.
YouTube operates on the same commercial model as commercial television. When you watch a YouTube they put advertisements on your screen and charge their customers for the priveledge of cluttering your screen. They also pay a small payment to their content providers - people like Nick - every time someone views their video. If YouTube pays Nick ten cents every time you or I watch his stuff then that small change soon mounts up.
