Saw Files…
Hi all,
Can someone point me in the direction of a supplier that stocks good quality 3SQ files. They seem to be in very patchy supply at my previous go to’s. Looking to touch up dovetail and carcass saws. Vallorbe are my preferred brand but happy to go with another brand if available.
Thanks,

Ando, are you looking for 3-square needle files? Jewellers suppliers are the only regular source for those.
I have never seen larger Grobet files in "American pattern" for sale here in Aus, but they may be. There was a thread on saw files some months ago, and it was agreed there is some difficulty in getting your hands on smaller sizes in the "better" brands. I buy Bahcos from Gasweld tools - they seem to carry the best range in saw files. Scroll past the handled ones, to here - no point in paying for bits of plastic...
Cheers,IW

I hadn’t realised it’s six months since this has been asked [emoji849][emoji849][emoji849].
Follow Ian’s advice,
Cheers Matt.

Hi Ian,
Yep the needle files are borderline what I’m chasing I’m only looking to touch up some smaller saws. I’ve misplaced my finer cut files and can only find the coarse one. 150mm or so without measuring the one downstairs. Thanks for the link I think they will do fine! Wouldn’t have thought of Gasweld they have a few decent options by the looks of it! If you’re giving them a plug then they will suits my needs just fine!! Appreciate the pointer.

While we think in terms of 100mm DEST files for saws around 12ppi (jeweler's files for finer teeth) it is interesting to note that for a long time the slimmest files only went down to EST. In theory any file should work, but the corners become finer as the file length and taper reduce. Too large a file results in a huge gullet and, relatively, a small tooth, which becomes weak because of the smaller amount of metal. It is also apparent that the corners are the first part of the file to deteriorate.
