I really like my tail vice and use it every day, but don't have experience with the others. are you going to put a shoulder, or record style frond vise? there have also been times when I wish I had holes in the bench top for those old school cast iron hold downs.
there's no school like the old school.

I'm thinking shoulder vice. Reason being that the big limitation with my standard face vice is that if you want to clamp anything through it, you have to clamp at the edge so that you get past the guide bars. It's impossible to get decent clamping then because the jaw racks. I find myself wanting to do that more often than not.
Major, that's the bench. There's a picture of it in The Workbench Book. Might be a bit over the top - but then you can never have too many clamps (or vices). A leg vice or face vice on the spare corner and you would be unstoppable"I don't practice what I preach because I'm not the kind of person I'm preaching to."
