    Default Introduction Nathan

    Hi ALL

New member here , i do metal shaping and have picked up an old hyco two speed bandsaw which I'm currently restoring it had been pulled apart prior to me getting the unit , i believe it was set up for cutting metal as the blades supplied are metal cutting blades i will be using the saw to make hammer forms for shaping metal, i found this forum via looking for information on my saw which isn't going well being its so old, found some great information here as well , so decided to become a member , if anyone could help out I've got a question in regards to the main drive pulley located in front of the small gear box which holds the gear reduction for the two speed setup and drives the unit .
It has a small lever on the back used to engage and disengage the reduction gear which all seems to be working correctly, the problem i have is that altho the gear box was together it had been pull apart cleaned etc and the main shaft bearing was replaced , it had appears to have a trust washer pack which ran behind the front retainer/ dowel pin locking mechanism i cannot work out if that was the only spot it ran, or did it run maybe 1 thrust on the inside as well behind the drive pinion ( there are no friction marks to trace or tell ]but their are friction marks between the retainer and main pulley , it has a small rotating mechanical locking clutch setup used to engage or disengage the main drive pulley to the shaft via a lockable dowel pin and judging by the wear marks the thrust washer i believe lived in there , the shaft is not a keyway shaft but has a dowel pin on the unit that you can either lock in or out and position itself into the main pulley depending on if you want it in high or low speed and where the lever on the back is orientated, I've more then likely posted this in the wrong place , I'm happy to make a new thread with pictures but i don't seem to have authorisation to do so yet or view other pictures on the site, if this setup is familiar to anymore i would appreciated your help with nutting this clutch out, i think ive got it but would like to compare or talk with someone who has dealt with this situation or even better has a similar saw i can compare to , i presuming the little thrust pack or clutch pack is for grip when the dowel pin is disengaged when running the machine in low speed

I probably should of brought something newer or that works copy that! I couldn't resist the challenge, i enjoy restoring things and i think this will be a little ripper plus holds our history

    Kind regards
    Nathan
