Cleaning old Fire screen.
Hi All, Have just aquired an old Fire Screen in good condition but in need of a good clean before giving it a Wax finish. Any advise on what to clean it with first would be appreciated. Thanks Brian.

If you are not trying to remove old finish, then just soap and water.

If you mean one of the pressed brass ones? They are just brass -possibly treated for a brown patina? if so go gentle -If after polished brass - then can be more vigorous - but not abrasive with course things. Photos would help!!! Steel mesh is something else. Oh and wax finish on a fire screen best be for something that covers -ONLY when not in use. For hopefully obvious reasons!

Fire Screen
Hi Matt, Fire screens are not meant to be used in front of an open fire only to cover up an unused one. Brian.
