    Default Hello from Ireland

    Hi all,

I'm Ray from Ireland, been woodworking since I was little and in the last couple of years taking it more seriously and trying out new techniques such as planing/joining multiple boards, furniture builds and upholstery. Recently started videoing my projects with the first being a firewood log store.

My main tools I use are the mitre saw and bandsaw, recently got a track saw and enjoying the speed of cutting up sheets with it.

Looking forward to future discussions on here.

    Ray

G'Day & Welcome to the Great Southern Land and to a top forum "Ray".....
There are quite a few members from UK and many from the Europe plus of course the rest of the world.....
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes.
    Enjoy the forum.
    Enjoy your woodwork...
Cheers from On Top DownUnder, crowie

Cheers for the warm welcome crowie, the forum has a mass of information, wish I had found it quicker.
I will definitely share some pictures of projects I am doing, as usual there is a lot more in progress than finished

Currently finishing work on a tutorial video for building a firewood storage shed, not sure many are used in Australia but definitely useful with the constant Irish rain.

Default Welcome.... and alternative applications for projects!

Hi Ray, sorry I'm late to the welcoming party,

Many Aussies are a relaxed bunch, (from what I've seen, it's quite like the Irish), don't take us too seriously, and you'll be fine. )

I'm a relatively new member myself, and I just wish to say "Greetings from Canberra, Australia"... where it only seems that winter lasts 8 months of the year. ) In stark contrast to those living in tropical Cairns... where winter doesn't exist.

I've been reading through this thread, and thinking that your projects may be more interesting to others than your comments implied.

Ok, it's true, while I have no use for firewood sheds per se... I might need something similar for my precious barbecue fuel (and barbecue itself). We all have something we want to protect from the elements, so don't sell your projects short, ok? Many here will take a look at a posted project, like your storage shed for firewood, then adapt it to their situation. That's what we're all here for.

You mentioned that you use band/mitre/track saws... No table saw? No judgements, just curious. My tool acquisition journey was also somewhat... wayward.. compared to many woodworkers. I mean, who gets a lathe before they have any sort of drill? <cue sheepish grin here>.

Anyway, like the others said. Lots of good folks here. Pics, humour, and lessons learned are always appreciated. If you get bored, have a look at my other posts. Some find them quite entertaining.

    Welcome aboard.

Hamish (a.k.a: Harmo... for reasons too boring to explain that nickname/avatar/nomme de plume.... or nomme de keyboard?)

    Hi Harmo,

Thanks for the warm welcome and welcome to yourself also being new 😁 I have many pictures of previous projects so will start to share them.

Thats what I enjoy seeing, people adapting projects for their own need, great to see the ideas that arise. If interested in looking at the firewood shed build it can be seen here How to Build a Firewood Storage Shed in a day 2023 / Simple and Solid DIY Firewood Shed / Rack - YouTube
My first video so appreciate any constructive feedback/comments.

Table saw I get asked a lot 😁 I have one, it may be about 30 years old so isnt super accurate, probably the reason I do not use it much, have built various jig sleds for it but could not get used it to fully.

Did you do much on the lathe? I ended up with a lot of mini baseball bats 😆
I will check out your other posts, thanks again, Ray
