Default Please help me identify this timber

Hi, I really like this timber and would like to get more but I'm not sure what it is. Can anyone tell from the photo? I purchased the piece from a furniture store on the Sunshine Coast. It was originally stained quite dark so I sanded it back. In the photo it is unfinished.

A couple of red flags for me about the QLD Walnut ID,

    1. not sure why anyone would stain QLD Walnut "quite dark." Typically, veneers are stained with a violet wash stain to accentuate the colour.
    2. the style & construction of the unit looks to not warrant a relatively expensive wood.
    3. QLD Walnut is not common in production run joinery.
    4. perhaps the range of furniture stocked by the "furniture store on the Sunshine Coast" may give some clues as to the origin of the piece, and the woods used in their range of offerings.

Good thoughts @mobyturns, thanks. The store does deal mostly with imported furniture. Perhaps the timber comes from Indonesia or somewhere else in Asia. I should just call the store and ask. For some reason I didn't think to do that in the first place. Thanks again
