Too much for me.
Just wondering if it is a good tool or not.
Better than a hand skriver?

I have never seen one just like that, looks like a good economy version of the high end units (8 times the price ) I would give it a go.
Would be better than a hand skiver more precise for less effort , you could use it as splitter as well, hand skiver still have a place as there are times when you just can't put the project in the machine.

Thanks china. I've ordered one. Those videos seem like it will be OK for my use. I'll get some spare blades too. Although I reckon I can sharpen them if needed.

The skriver arrived very promptly. Good packaging.
Construction as described, stainless steel. I was surprised that they bolted the base instead of welding.
But I'm very pleased with the construction. I can see this tool lasting a long time.
I have never used a skriver before, hand held or machine type. So from that perspective my opinion was very high.
The ease of use and adjustment is excellent. Some before and after shots of some experimental pieces attached. Cut surface finish to my eyes is good. As with all tools, sharp blades are a must have. So I'll source some spares ASAP.
The cut width is about 100mm. But that might take some effort depending on depth of cut.
So far an excellent ebay tool buy.

Hi Lyle.
I’ve wondered about these. They seem to be more for splitting then form skiving. Can you do a narrow edge bevel on them. Say you wanted to put a bevel 10mm wide on an edge - say on 2mm thick leather that you want to finish at 1mm thick. Can you do that?
Anyway, how useful are you finding it now, a couple of months later?
Cheers

Hi Aaron. Not sure of what you want it to do.
I'm thinking you might be better with a hand held skiver.

Just a beveled edge - thin the edge before joining.

No I don't think it could do that.
That's why I think a different tool would.

Probably this does, I haven’t talked to anyone who’s used one though so not sure. You would need to be able to tilt the blade.

Half the price and with a demo video. They probably buy it here then onsell.

This probably would not work for softer leathers. A drum skiver would be better there but they are not cheap.

I’ve always imagined that with those skivers where the user pulls the leather through then you would end up with annoying stretched edges. However the electric ones are expensive and much more then needed for my occasional use.
Apologies for unnoticed autocomplete errors.
