Disassembling Devon outdoor furniture?
Greetings...anyone ever tackled rebuilding Devon outdoor teak chairs?
(Can't add pictures to post, anyone know why?)
I have 8 chairs that need to be redone.
Initial disassembly is easy & complete (removing the screwed together joints)
Most of the cross rails are split where the screw anchors pull against the wood. so I'll get some new teak and recreate them.
Here's the difficult part that's got me scratching my head...
On the left & right leg/arm assemblies, the epoxy in the joints is toast. I need to get them apart to clean up & reassemble.
They have thin gage nails through the tenons (for lack of a better description)
I knocked one apart to see what I was up against.
You can see what happens trying to pull it apart, the nails pull thru the peg, doing a lot of damage.
The thin nails are too small to drive thru with a nailset; too small & buried to pull out as well
I've got 4 of these joints per assembly (arm rest & lower rail)
2 assemblies per chair, 8 chairs total.
Lots of joints to get apart...
Call me frustrated!
