Default bottles of water on lawn

whats the go behind this, I dont understand.

Our block of land is rough tough local natives, closer to house & shed its gravel & crusher dust.
we decided to put a small section under lawn and the dogs both took an instant liking to it, sleeping etc but also doing their No.2's. Dog crap is not nice at the best of times but a friend suggested putting a 2 litre bottle of water on the grass, keep moving it around and the dogs wont s**t there anymore.

Well he was right, fair go blue.
    How does that work?
Whats the rhyme or reason behind it?

Id heard it before, but thought it old wives tale, but in this case its working, touch wood.
I would love to grow my own food, but I can not find bacon seeds

    Have a read of this.
Burke's Backyard, Old Husband's Tales - Water Bottles to Stop Dogs Pooing on Lawn - YouTube

I also heard it depends on the dog - our neighbour on the corner with a large corner lawn reckons it works for an aggressive little french bulldog that wanders past every day, but not for other dogs.
Once a dog has pooed on a lawn and the poo has sat there for some time it's going to attract other dogs to do the same.

Our dogs poo on the same manicured verge lawn during most mornings walk about 10 houses down from our place. Of course I pick it up (fortunately there is currently a builders skip about 2 houses further on for disposal purposes) otherwise I have to carry it for about 200m to the nearest disposal bun. I might put a bottle on that lawn and see what happened. I'll bet the owner disposes of the bottle pronto.

I would just like to know the thought process by which this was discovered.

"The dog keeps $h!tting on the lawn, why don't we put a bottle out there and see if it stops him? Oh look, it worked - let's post it on Facebook."

I got sick of sitting around doing nothing - so I took up meditation.

    its older then facebook.

I remember being a kid in the early 90's and seeing my friends next door neighbour doing it with 2L soft drink bottles. I thought I remember seeing something about it on Harry's Practice or something like that where its actually the light scattering/reflecting in the water that is the deterrent

I wondering what looks more stupid a pristine lawn with a dozen water bottles on it or a dog poo.

I was told that the idea stemmed from animals not doing it near their drinking water. I think it's all crap. (no pun intended).

My dog craps on my lawn
    He's welcome to
And said poo is placed in the garden to decompose
One could also use tissue paper and pop it in the bin
    Seriously

In a similar vein, I just heard about this one.

If you get a bunch of rocks, paint them red and put them around your strawberry plants before the strawberries come on, the local birds come along and peck at the stones, find out they are inedible then they are supposed to leave your strawberries alone because they think they are rocks.

What P's me off are the peeps who walk their dogs, let them do their thing on your lawn, pick it up, then walk off. Days later there is a dead patch surrounded by an eruption of new green growth.

My nature strip is starting to look like the craters of the moon.

That might be dog pee. Female dogs pee is especially a known lawn killer -
I've though about training the Border Collies to pee on lawn weeds but given what they once did to the back lawn they might go back to doing that.
