Building our house, which is after 2 years nearing completion, I wanted a timber capping for the stairwell. The floor is European oak engineered flooring, so wanting to match and think8ng I wouldn’t be able to get decent oak locally, I made the capping out of flooring (see photo). The problem is that the arises are very sharp, being joined on 45 degree bevels. I want to ease the arises, but this will naturally remove some of the finish, so I will need to refinish.

I don’t know what the engineered flooring is sprayed with beyond the fact it is an ‘industrial lacquer’. It is certainly catalysed.

I have some Wattyl Stylwood that I could use. This will mean putting a precatalysed lacquer on top of an unknown fully catalysed lacquer. Anyone tried this ?

Any other suggestions?

Anyone ever tried refinishing an engineered floor?

Cheers
