Wadkin RS8 lathe paint questions.
I scored an RS8 recently and it needs repainting.
Looks to be about 1940.
Original grey with yellow on top.
Paint falling off side of bed and very chipped worn off on headstock.
Tripod still grey.
Started scraping off bed,gap and cast rear leg.
Peels off easily except where casting so rough scraper won’t glide over the surface.
There seems to be a soft very dark filler? on the iron filthy almost like graphite?
I am going to experiment with the gap with paint stripper both on the inside which still has all the paint on it and the out side re this filler.
Has anyone here in Oz repainted a Wadkin stuff of this vintage and if so what did you use to seal before applying the new colour?
Few pics and will put up more later.
H.
Has been converted to 240v with a 2800rpm motor, on second slowest pulley ripped the connector off the belt looking to maybe go back to 3 phase and a VFDJimcracks for the rich and/or wealthy. (aka GKB '88)

Nice find H. I am just going to use a good quality 2 part auto panel shop filler on mine which allows it to be feathered quite thin when sanding

The RU is very in very similar condition, a crappy paint job over the original. Its good because nothing was properly prepared allowing the top coat of paint to come of reasonably easy. After I've scraped the paint off I go over with a wire wheel. Then spend quite a bit of time de greasing. Brake/clutch clean is good for this. 2 part car bondo is good
