    Default DIY woodworking newbie

    G'day all

Am pretty new to this woodworking gig, and very much a DIY / hobbyist. Think I may have just barely passed woodworking class back in highschool and never thought I would revisit working with wood - ever. Until I quit my job, then COVID hit, then I couldn't find work for the best part of a year and a bit and occupied myself with restoring an 8-seater dining table set (pulling apart, sanding and restaining only) and a couple of other furniture items after which I thought I'd take a stab at making stuff.

I'd say I'm about 6mths into woodworking as a hobbyist. I started with a circular saw, an impact driver and a power drill and built a rudimentary potting table and matching stool on which none of the legs are square but they're level and stable and I learnt a lot from the experience.

Hoping I can glean some kernels of wisdom and know-how from others who are more experienced, and who'll be patient as I learn not only some of the basics but also the inherent lingo along the way (What's a kerf? I dunno, but it sure sounds important! ).

Browsing through some of the threads in the forums, y'all sound pretty decent and helpful. Looking forward to interacting with many of you; so thank you in advance!
