Default Re rope an extension ladder help

I have an older aluminium (mote) extension ladder that needs a new rope

I am after a diagram on what ties to where and where the rope goes through the ladder

I heave searched every where fir something that I thought would be fairly simple

I have put a new rope on - but it doesn’t work like it use to 3A342E23-52DD-493D-A8BA-BBECA059C856.jpg

Most search results seem to refer to youtube, others just mostly words, no detailed pics.
I agree, would think it should be fairly simple.

    Hi Strungout,
My ladder is a bit different from yours but the setup is probably similar. I was going to take a photo but decided a diagram might be better. I hope this is of some help.
    Cheers,
    Geoff.

the rope should be tied at the bottom in such a way it can be used to disingage the locking assy when the ladder is fully extended

by extending the ladder slightly and then using the other end of the rope to manipulate the assy

a pic of the locking lever might help also

Go to a hardware store that sells ladders also paint shops and have a look at the ladder that matches yours the closest and take photos or sketch
The person who never made a mistake never made anything

    Thanks Geoff
    Much appreciated

Yes - mine is a bit different and use to work like Hodgo described below
I’ll put a pick up on the pulley and the bottom stay bracket
Something so easy - and yet so hard

could you tie the loose end of the rope to the bottom of the lock in order to disengage it after passing it around the bottom rung on the raised section( loosely)
    to create a loop

I did have it tied On the fixed rung behind the one the rope is tied to in the pic - and it kind of worked but keeps getting caught up - as the rope gets longer as the ladder goes up

It never did that before the rope broke

as I remember there was never any excess rope once the ladder was extended so I figured the excess rope followed the raised section up

might be time for a reconnasance mission to the ladder shop or big green shed

Strungout, sorry mate my drawing is misleading, the bottom "anchor point" should show the rope attached to a lever arm of the extension latch.
    Cheers,
    Geoff.
