Yes LOL. My apologies for the "snipity" attitude. This whole covid thing is just gotten so out of control and the divisiveness it has facilitated amongst families, colleagues and friends will take decades to heal - if at all. I am truly disgusted at the at how people, on both sides are acting. And especially how the governments have managed this whole situation. So the snippiness was that obvious eh? LOL

I'm pretty much a Luddite in this arena as well. I have all optional notifications turned off and don't use any social networking apps. My phone always has data turned on and my gmail app is logged on, however I hardly ever use the phone app anyway. If I need to do anything, if it's got a website I use my laptop on my home wifi. Unless I can't avoid it all updates only happen over my home wifi. On my phone I use MapsME (offline) when needed for navigation, not Google maps and very occasionally I use a browser.
My battery lasts a full week, often longer, I might use 1GB data a year. That still doesn't answer why you would trust Google Android and not Google Mail.Franklin

Interesting discussion.
I have asked a similar question myself just recently to The Spin Doctor except, if anything, my situation is more extreme in that I don't use a mobile phone at all. When SWMBO is with me she signs me in on the app, but when I am by myself I either use a paper sign in or an electronic tablet if one is provided. The reason I don't have a phone is that I do not wish to pay for one and my belief is that I don't need it: Most of the time this is true.
The vaccination proof requirement has taken this to another level. I now have paper copies to provide as evidence, if that is acceptable to the establishment concerned. At this stage I have not had to put it to the test. The paper copy aspect was fortunate as it transpired my second vaccination had been missed off. I had to register on MyGov, which took a while and then realised the omission on the certificate. Correcting that took well over an hour on the phone only to be told I could go to the local clinic that had given the vaccination to have the record corrected. Then it was entered incorrectly, but has subsequently been rectified. In fact SWMBO can sign me in, but I have to somehow give her permission, which I have not done yet as the situation has not arisen. I don't object to that at all.
It may be that down the track I will find the paper copy is insufficient evidence. That will be interesting. I don't know what percentage of the population are without a mobile phone, and I anticipate it is not high, but I certainly don't see why I should have to purchase a phone and buy credit to go about my normal life. Am I a Luddite? Probably.

I've been through all this lately with a trip to SA from NSW without a smart phone. In short, the SA IT was unable to cope with that situation and I spent my time there waiting for a knock on the door from SA police. I spent a couple of hours on the phone on a couple of occasions, trying to do the right thing, but without resolution. In the end, I just ignored the messages I was sent on a daily basis, telling me to download their app. They were supposed to send a message with a phone number that I could ring to report my health status on a daily basis, but it never happened and I wasn't going to spend another two hours with a phone stuck to my ear.
The knock on the door was unlikely I suppose, they didn't have my address, but I was very aware of driving around the state with NSW plates.
