Hot hello fromTownsville
Hi all- have been playing on the periphery of woodworking all my adult life, but had been thoroughly seduced by the perceived ‘necessity’ to want to own or own a noisy expensive collection of machinery without which woodworking was apparently not possible. I’ve gradually come to the realisation that I don’t need most of the stuff I’d bought over the years and am now delighting in the quiet serene pleasure of cutting half blind dovetails by hand, building an occasional table with hand cut mortice and tenon joints , and hand planing and dimensioning timber for projects. I was always impatient in my youth, and thought that the machining would speed up the satisfaction I thought I’d get from using the machines. But it didn’t, and two things changed all of that. Learning to sharpen by hand was the single most important thing that has happened to me in the last few years, and for that I thank a number of You Tube channels. I could now shave with any of my beautiful collection of hand planes and chisels. Secondly, air conditioning my workshop means I can now acclimatise, store, and use wood in sweat-free comfort, and since I am not producing clouds of toxic dust and serious noise can work in the shop whenever I please.
Anyone want to buy a power plane?
