Efficacy of cyclone with resin ribbons and clumps from slab flattening
I've been trying to figure out dust extraction with my home-made slab flattening mill for hybrid timber and resin pieces.
The problem is if my impeller extractor picks up the resin coming off the slab flattening bit it clogs up in the 4" tube at the impeller and wraps around the impeller blades.
I've been researching cyclone pre-filters and before I spend the $300 I want to see if anyone has any insight on whether the cyclone will catch the clumps of resin ribbon and keep it (mostly) out of my dust extractor?

If your DC is less than 3hp, a cyclone will kill the whole system.
What bit are you using? There might be a better solution there.

Some more details about the rest of your DC system might be useful;
If you have a 4" input at the impeller that means a maximum of ~400CFM of air is moving through the impeller.
Adding a cyclone will reduce the flow to about 300CFM, so no wonder things are clogging up.
Adding a prefilter will slow things down and while it may prevent the blockage in the impeller it also means most fine dust will not be collected, ie simply not enough air flow.

Thanks for the info.
The 1HP is too small to be anything other than a basic chip collector.
The 2HP DC in stock form will not draw enough air to capture fine dust at source especially if a cyclone is being used.
It can be modified to draw much more air - see sticky at top of teh dust forum. Whether even that will be enough air depends on the amount of fine dust being generated.

Have you removed the metal grate at the inlet to the DE? If not, that could be part of your problem.
