I got sick of sitting around doing nothing - so I took up meditation.

I should be there. I just have to wake up. (May not be entirely mellow and maybe not inspired either)

In our discussion the subject of knife making from vehicle leaf springs came up. this was because Lance's daughter has been engaging in this (what a wonderful daughter). I think she should post some results.

I have advocated leaf springs for some time as a very accessible source of cutting material providing you have access to equipment to heat treat. I have made chisels, froes and plane blades, but never knives except for one.

Some while back I made up a grafting knife in the Japanese style. I say style, because the blade is a lot thicker than the examples I have seen from that country. It has a single bevel.

I could describe it as one careful lady owner as I made it for SWMBO. To my knowledge it has never been used. Grafting of plant material is a skilled and delicate operation. I can only conclude she is not into hard graft.

The scuffs are the result of being thrown into a drawer with the secateurs and various other miscellanea.

    Great looking knife Paul.

That style of Japanese knife is a Kiridashi.

They also use small Kiridashi knives for marking out in woodwork.

I was supposed to be in NSW for the weekend, with my Veterans' support knife-making group, but seeing as how that is more than five km from home, I wasn't able to go.

Consequently, I might be on the zoom meeting - possibly. But I guess I will have to wear a mask if I do.

    Why is it always Victoria?
