Bloody hilarious name change for an Austrian town....much preferred the original!
Fugging hell: tired of mockery, Austrian village changes name | Austria | The Guardian
I have known about this township for some years, and was never really quite 100% convinced that it was true, even though it can be found on Google Maps. However, I have a cousin who leaves just 50 or so kms from there and he confirmed that it is real alright (he was here for a visit a year ago). He maintains it is pronounce "Phooking" as in "Spooking" not "Cooking" (so like the "u" is a "ü" which makes it a double letter) but that doesn't cut the mustard at all. EVERYBODY knows it is the pronounced the same as Phuket in Thailand which is clearly not the politically correct "Poo-kay".
Phooking hilarious.

I hadn't even started reading it when I posted that (because I knew it was going to be a gem).
I didn't even get past the first line before I was howling wi' laughter:
(and I'm using the new name here rather than the old...)
"Mayor says residents, known as Fuggingers....."
Now I dunno about you, but I would have thought they'd be known as "Fuggers"

I'm wondering how this new name willl aound coming from a Kiwi or Asian worse still a Yorkshire accent. Maybe the new name was suggested by a Geordie?

its just the kind of trash expected of a rubbish paper. As soon as the banner appeared I went off. The guardian is not worthy of the name let alone their so called muckrakers oops 'journalists'
