G'day from Brisbane
Hi there,
I've finally bought myself some tools to get started on my new hobby. I was a keen triathlete until a health problem stopped me in my tracks and not having a hobby has been tough the last year. I've done a couple of odd things around the house - I fixed my wooden chairs with plugs, glue and clamps and they are solid as ever. I now want to get into building furniture and I'm going to attempt to build my first coffee table in an old farmhouse style. I will post some pictures if I can find the wood to complete this project this weekend.
If anyone knows of any good places to buy wood in Brisbane or can give me advice on what wood to use for my project I would be very grateful. I want a light wood that's not too expensive since its my first project. No idea what to get.
See you around the forums.
Jamie

G'Day & Welcome to a top forum "Jamie".....
There are a stack members around Brisbane and cross South East Queensland plus the rest of the country.....
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum.
Enjoy your woodwork......
Cheers crowie
PS - On the timber question; start a new thread asking the question in order to gain a wider audience and thus answers, Cheers.

Gday Jamie welcome aboard from fellow relative noob.
I'm in the same boat being in Brisbane and not until recently knowing where to go. I use Bunnings like I assume most for dressed pine and tassie oak. They also sell project panels which can be useful for basic stuff.
I've been going to Watt's Wood and Mouldings at Salisbury lately for more adventurous stuff. Nice guys there, easy to deal with.
