Remember Me?
It has been along time since I was on this Forum. I can only access this computer when I am visiting my daughter. Its a long story that I won't go into, it means that I can only access the Metal Work Forum from home. If anyone wants to contact me here, it could be a while for me to reply.
I do enjoy this Forum with the people who are quick to give useful advice when needing to sort out a problemJust do it!
Kind regards Rod

For what it's worth:
Over the last month up until 2 days ago I have done everything I can to get chambesio back on these forums and the only thing that is going to fix it for him is to change his IP address which his service provider has refused to do. The fault lies with SkyMesh his service provider.
chambesios' IP address was one of 2 that were slowing the forums down a month or so ago. His IP alone was responsible for over 110,000 hits on the forums over 20 day period before it was blacklisted by our security program. That's more hits than we get from Google, Yahoo and all the other search engine bots in a month. The combined total for the 2 problem IP was over 250,000 hits in 20 days and is what was responsible for the drastic slowing down of the forums. The other IP was deleted without any problems for the other user as he could get another IP easily.
Both IP's were unique to them on these forums. Both were notified about the problem and asked if they could switch to another IP.
Rod was notified a week in advance by PM and follow up email but we received no response 8 days after that his IP was blacklisted.
Any half decent service provider should be able to give another IP but he was told his wouldn't. Everything possible has been done to get him back on including deletion of IP, new passwords, different name and a whole heap more but all to no avail.
I'm more than happy to have him come back on board but unless his IP is changed he will only be able to get on from another computer with a different IP and at the moment that appears to be his daughter who's 30km away.
Pretty poor show that Skymesh won't give him another IP.
None of his problems appear to be Rods fault, it's most likely all down to SkyMesh.
If you need to contact Rod and are registered with Metalwork forums you can do so via PM over there. WWF and MWF are 2 different sites and because MWF hadn't been attacked trough his IP there was no reason to have it blacklisted there as it was here.

There is a simpler way to fix this, VPN. The op could download a browser with VPN built in, e.g. opera. Choose one of the VPN nodes and log into the forums.

I use Skymesh (satellite) when I'm on the farm. I hope my own use is not affecting the forum. Their refusal to provide another IP address seems churlish.
Unfortunately many people in customer service roles are uninformed or misguided, and unsatisfactory responses need escalation before any sensible solution comes about. Failing that, you can contact the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman or simply change satellite providers. The TIO are pretty good at prompting sensible outcomes and the threat to contact them is often enough.

I too suggest using Opera as a browser, the built in VPN works very well at zero cost. The TIO might give Skymesh a nudge as they are pretty good at stuff like that.

YIPEE!!!!!
I may as well have won the lottery.
I came in to have lunch and casually look at the computer. Their was a PM waiting for me. Neil, the bloke who owns the Forum, telling me that he may have fixed the lockout on my IP address and would I have a go at getting on and .......YEP I am on and its working fine now.
I am so grateful for the time Neil has put in to get me back.
This may be the biggest Woodwork Forum in the world but it has a personal touch which makes it so great.
I didn't realise just how much I look forward to starting the day with reading what is what on the Forum until I was locked out. Well now I can start the day just as I have for the last 11 years.
Thanks again Neil and the "back room guys"Just do it!
Kind regards Rod

Rod
A couple of days ago I had realised we had not heard from you much of late. I was concerned knowing a little about your health issue. Of course I had not got around to doing anything about it and from the sounds of it you would not have received my PM anyway. However it is so good to hear you are alive and kicking. Truly excellent.
Neil
Thank you for helping Rod out of this predicament. He is well worth the effort. It is testimony to the close knit nature of this Forum that really does go beyond woodworking. Thanks again

I just went through the number of "likes" I have received from 13 members. It is nice to know so many have me on their minds even though ordinarily they may be silent. To find out we are not alone is such a comfort. Previously I was going through some old posts and came across a few fellas names that made me wonder where they may be now.
This Forum is a whole lot more than a place to get info. We not only share our knowledge but how we tackle life's awkward bends in the road.Just do it!
Kind regards Rod

Nothing like the morning coffee and a read of the Woodwork Forum to get you started in the morning.

Thanks Neil for returning Rod to the fold, he was around when I joined long ago and always seems to have a worthwhile contribution with his posts.
I used to be an engineer, I'm not an engineer any more, but on the really good days I can remember when I was.
