drilling harder steel you need to run the drill much slower than normal with more pressure than normal. You can also sharpen a masonary bit if need be, but that might be what you were referring to.

I couldn't be bothered as the brother in law with the full machine shop works better and he actually knows what he is doing. It was a carbide drill bit, not a masonery bit and it cost very little to buy.
