    Default Oil Shortage in Australia

This has probably been submitted before, but we have New Members on here that may not have read this important message.

A lot of folks can't understand how we came to have an oil shortage here in Australia.

Well, there's a very simple answer.

Nobody bothered to check the oil.

We just didn't know we were getting low.

The reason for that is purely geographical.

    Our OIL is located in

    Bass Strait

    East Queensland Shale Fields

    Canning Basin

    Perth Basin
    and
    North-West Continental Shelf

Our DIPSTICKS are located in Canberra!!!

    Any Questions ???

    NO? I didn't Think So.

I guess that here in the US, we have two sets of dip sticks.
One set is in Washington and the other set is in Sacramento.

Sadly, yes. It's just that the ones in my state seem to be the worst.

Right now they are trying to pass a solution for the "Housing and homeless crisis". The state is attempting to change the zoning rules that will allow high density housing near and around transit centers. Actually it is a brilliant idea except for one tiny minor detail. In the LA metro area we don't have any real mass transit so there aren't any real "transit centers".

Our dip sticks are missing their handles.

Oh, goodness. To start off with. . . .

LA, or the Los Angeles metro area, is a collection of small cities. Each with their own city council and sometimes own jail, etc. My city Huntington Beach has a population of about 200,000 plus. The LA metro area is 13 million plus. LA is a collection of a half a zillion cities spread over 5 counties. And like all political subdivisions world wide, no one can agree.

Sacramento is just another city except in Northern California.
In a side note, I had spent about 8 months commuting between Huntington Beach to the Washington metro area for work. The company paid for all. I had a flat in the northern Virginia area.

So I'm bringing some representatives from one of our New England factories to visit customers (State of California) in Sacramento. I am buying meals, chauffeuring these factory types around, visiting the customer at state sites. The whole time I'm thinking, "I don't like this place but I don't know why." Finally, the last day of this week long charade we stopped in a hotel bar (Public rouse) for drinks before going to the airport. I finally blurted out, "I don't know what it is but I just don't like this town." One of the factory representatives looks at me and says, " You effing idiot, Sacramento is just a little Washington DC."

OK. The mentality in Washington is that 'Washington is the center of the universe'. What? You don't believe? Just ask anyone in federal government.
The mentality in Sacramento is that 'Sacramento is the center of the United States.' And yes, the residents of California suffer.

I know what you mean. Canberra thinks it's the center of a different universe.

Sydney has dozens of councils, I forget how many. Brisbane has one huge council, and it sucks lumps. We literally have more voters per councilor than voters per state rep. They amalgamated our councils, supposedly to save money. The only people who saved money were property developers. Made it a lot cheaper to bribe their way through development approvals.
