ANZ Bank
Note to self: 'Cancel credit cards prior to death!
Be sure and cancel your credit cards before you die!
This is so priceless and so easy to see happening - customer service, being what it is today!
A lady died this past January, and ANZ bank billed her for February and March for their annual
service charges on her credit card, and then added late fees and interest on the monthly charge.
The balance had been $0.00, now is somewhere around $60.00.
A family member placed a call to the ANZ Bank:
Family Member: 'I am calling to tell you that she died in January.'
ANZ :'The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still apply.'
Family Member: 'Maybe, you should turn it over to collections.'
ANZ : 'Since it is two months past due, it already has been.'
Family Member: So, what will they do when they find out she is dead?'
ANZ : 'Either report her account to the frauds division or report her to the credit bureau, maybe both!'
Family Member: 'Do you think God will be mad at her?'
ANZ : 'Excuse me?'
Family Member: 'Did you just get what I was telling you . . . The part about her being dead?'
ANZ :'Sir, you'll have to speak to my supervisor.'
Supervisor gets on the phone:
Family Member: 'I'm calling to tell you, she died in January.'
ANZ : 'The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still apply.'
Family Member:'You mean you want to collect from her estate?'
ANZ : (Stammer) 'Are you her lawyer?'
Family Member: 'No, I'm her great nephew.'(Lawyer info given)
ANZ :'Could you fax us a certificate of death?'
Family Member: 'Sure.'( fax number is given )
After they get the fax:
ANZ :'Our system just isn't set up for death. I don't know what more I can do to help'
Family Member: 'Well, if you figure it out, great! If not, you could just keep billing her. I don't think she will care.'
ANZ : 'Well, the late fees and charges do still apply.'
Family Member: 'Would you like her new billing address?'
ANZ :'That might help.'
Family Member: Rookwood Memorial Cemetery , 1249 Centenary Rd, Sydney Plot Number 1049.'
ANZ :'Sir, that's a cemetery!'
Family Member: 'Well, what do you do with dead people on your planet?'

When I was drawing up my latest will I decided it was probably appropriate to add something about deleting my ever growing digital footprint after my demise. The concept was lost on the person writing it down and I gave up.

The absolutely terrifying thing about this post is that it sounds like our Bank of America or B of A.

Back in the middle of September, I returned a welding cylinder as I don't need one anymore. I see I'm still getting charged for said cylinder, even though the supplier has sent in his paperwork, and I've sent in an email requesting a refund. Mind you if you're late paying, they soon jump up and down, but when the boot is on the other foot, it's a different story.
Sounds like a lot of big organisations, so much for technology.

Krynn, if it's the same gas cylinder supplier that we used to use (it probably is, the big one) prepare yourself for a long battle. We had lots of gas bottles scattered around the state, but we knew exactly where every one was. The supplier had no idea what cylinders we had returned, what ones we had taken and what were in use. Our poor office clerk wasted more hours each month on them than all our other suppliers put together. Eventually, she would get on to someone who seemed to be able to sort it out, they'd reconcile which cylinders we did and didn't have and we'd get an amended invoice. Next month, it would all have gone to merde and she'd have to go through the same exercise again.

Of coarse there are "Late" fees. The customer is dead.
Good idea to redirect mail to current address and see if they can get money from the ground. Or you could give them the address of their head office, or the industry Ombudsman.

Talking of gas, I just recently changed from origin gas to a local supplier, origin sent me an invoice for $80 itemised as an access fee for bottled gas, rang them, spoken to a very obliging person. Pointed out that it was a rip off as I am am a pensioner, so they said we will change it to $40, I said why wasn't it billed as $40 the first time, silence, so I cancelled the account, now get gas from local supplier at the same cost per bottle as Origin and no service/access charge. Interestingly , after doing the boiling water test on the cylinder, the local supplied bottle had more gas in it than those supplied by origin, I estimate about 10% more.......hmmmm.......

Don't they sell by weight? Here I would report that to our local Bureau of Weights and Measures. If they were found short, the fines would be huge.
In another life I bottled Chlorine to be used for drinking water and sewer treatment. Every bottle had a tare on it stamped in to the steel. The small bottles we filled to 150 pounds and the big tanks we filled to an Imperial ton (2000 pounds). There was one municipality that would have BWM verify almost every big tank we went them. I was told that their previous supplier would regularly short them about 10%. We would hear that there was 5 or 6 pounds extra in every tank. The funny thing is that we would do that on purpose because it was too easy not to.

Yes they sell by weight but 99.99% of people wouldn't know the difference because of the average life of a 90kg bottle would be about 4 to 5 months depending on what it is fuelling and when they get used to the first 2 cycles, nothing matters after that, it also comes down the the subcontractor who delivers and refills, you work it out

We used dry nitrogen to pressurise various instruments, and each site had a nomogram that used bottle & regulator pressure, temperature and gas flow rate to calculate % full, amount used vs amount that should have been used since previous visit and various other parameters. If a new bottle wasn't full when installed it showed. Usually they were OK, but occasionally there'd be one that obviously hadn't been refilled. Never had any arguments when it was returned.

Re the banks, take your pick as to the flavour.
Anyone still wondering why/how they “make” billions of $ “profit” and “support” their executives with 7 figures of your hard earned.
Wait until rates go negative and not only will you still be paying fees but you will be paying them for your savings.Regards,
Bob

The Westpac CEO just "stepped down" after the furore about the AML issue AUSTRAC raised. Had to give him 12 months notice - and a $2.6Mil salary for that time. Damn, the banks are doing it tough these days.

I fail to see how a bank can commit a crime. Crimes are committed by people, either individually or in concert. Sometimes those who commit the crimes are incited by other individuals, perhaps their bosses. Inciting someone to commit a crime is, itself, a crime.
People go to gaol for crimes against banks. Goose, gander?

There are still robberies committed in banks. Previously it was done on the customer side of the counter and the police were called. Now it is done on the staff side and the police are not involved.
