Summer is almost here. First snake sighting.
This afternoon I saw my first "Joe Blake" of the season, which to me indicates that summer is just around the corner.
Has anyone else in Victoria spotted one yet?I wanted to become a brickie but my old man said "No son, learn a trade."

They've been out for a month up east. I'm heading up near Silent just across the border over the coming weeks - I've heard the browns have been coming out over the past couple of weeks - still pretty slow and not aggresive yet. Thank ..... for leather gaitors and a 30-30.
If only snakes ate spiders I'd leave then alone

Bloke at work was laying down on the concrete at smoko 2 weeks ago and saws something out of the corner of his eye. Turned his head and watched a six foot brownie slither past him into the shed. We caught it later but missed another one that afternoon.
Have a nice day - Cheers

I don't know what species the one I saw was. It was only about 2 maybe 2 1/2 feet long, in the old money, but he slithered across the road in front of me at a fair rate of knots.
Saw 2 baby Bandicoots and an adult Echidna too. Quite an educational afternoon.I wanted to become a brickie but my old man said "No son, learn a trade."

I've seen a couple of those breeds on the road recently, about 3' long and 2' wide and very very flat.
As stated, have been out for about a month or so now.Stupidity kills. Absolute stupidity kills absolutely.

The one I spotted was quite thin which in conjunction with its length makes me think that perhaps it was just a young 'un.
Beats me, I'm just glad the warm weather is on its way.I wanted to become a brickie but my old man said "No son, learn a trade."

I counted 8 on the road between Wagga and Albury about 2 weeks ago, and then while I was in Wagga rode over one on the bike!!
Seems like a busy year aheadThere was a young boy called Wyatt
Who was awfully quiet
And then one day
He faded away
Because he overused White
Floorsanding in Canberra and Albury.....

Saw a tiger snake on Sunday last.
Keep still and they will leave you alone.
(although they are nice to eat )
30 30 is a waste of ammo.

At 50 cents a shot and given the semi auto 12g is no longer, the 30-30 with seven and a pocket full of spares is my insurance. When you see 5-10 snakes on a walk through a gully you soon come to appreciate open sights ( you can shoot real close and scare them away of course)

Thought you could only have a max of 5 rounds.
30-30 is a nice size and I used to reload my own but I still feel it is a bit heavy for that job.
.22 is clean and efficient.
12g is for half blind users.

most old 30-30's take six in the tube + one in the chamber. It's good in that when you miss (being a good nature loving citizen) the muzzle blast normally puts them on the back foot so to speak.

Nice rifle. I had a winchester 30 30 gold series along with just a few more.
Gave them all away when I had had enough. Have not touched a firearm since.

5 - I hope not - DanP will likely send the local gestapo around to check me stash of weapons out (again )
At this time of year the thin rakes are mostly too busy looking for a feed to waste venom, give it a month or so...
