Red face If you thought it gets better, it does....

Oh yeah - I thought the sh!te was deep enough but no...

Two weeks ago the sparky came back to wire up two spilt systems and checked out a couple of power points that weren't grabbing the terminals like they should - one was connected to the freezer. Yesterday I noticed a real bad smell near the back door - I thought it must have been the dogs bed which I bought inside because it was damp - I smellled the bed - not really smelly?

I investigate the external wall where there's been a small leak from a window that I've recently re-sealed - perhaps the insulation has got wet and is starting to go mouldy. Open the door to the back bedroom to get the drill and hole saw and my god - I've come across dead thingys that smell but not this bad.

Cautionsly I opened the freezeer (the back bedroom is currently storage for tools, crap and a chest freezer) and a mist came out but it wasn't cold - a mist of acidy/ammonia'y crap wafted up - I spewed.

Swimming in the freezer was 300 kg of venison, 40 kg of beef and a few kg of bones for the dog all swimming in 30cm of vile fluid now generating it's own heat....... thank god for organic/inorganic acid vapout filters.

What's even better, I bought 30 garbage bags to get rid of the stuff. I tripple bagged it and six hours later it had eated through the bags:mad:

Is it covered by your insurance, ours is, failing that bottle it and let it go through the secondary fermentation stage and sell it as some exotic beer

Perhpas if I add a little formaldehyde it would taste like Tiger beer
It's covered but hardly worth the claim.

Anyone know of how to get rid of the smell from the freezer - I've almost given up after soaking in pine-o-cleeen and then white king - it still makes me dry reach

    Chef's Tip
Add lots of curry, a few onions and carrots. Serve before it walks again.

Seriously I know what you are dealing with and don't envy your situation. At work we have about ten freezers full of birds, animals and bits and pieces of same. Every couple of years one of the freezers packs it in so I am familiar with the freezer contents.

300 kg of venison, 40 kg of beef not worth claiming, thats about $3K isn't it???
Or do they slither out of it by saying you shot it yourself.
I fly fish for trout and this comes in at about $500 a kilo with the amount I spend versus what I catch.

For Sale, 1 Chest Freezer. Big enough to fit a beast carcass or 4-5 people if that's your thing....... smells like roses (gone rotten and stuck up a dead cow's ****).....

I think I'll get back to smashing mirrors to use as loose fill behind my retaining wall.

(the venison was dogs meat - I know the mut lives well but it was pre-rut venison that was on the verge. It's cost about $4 and a couple of hours to replace it - they are coming out of the park onto the grass at quite a rate lately. The beef - well there's plenty more where that came from. If only there were still trout in the river - the CSIRO hasn't found anything after the fires and huge rains that followed - PS Iain - you should be shot for telling swmbo how much it acutally costs to catch a bloody fish!)

SWMBO said to try "vanilla fridge wipe". She reckons it does a really good job of cleaning out my beer fridge after stuff has been in there for a couple of months trying to grow legs.
Have a nice day - Cheers

    G'Day Eastie,
you could try a bottle of Vannila essence, wipe the entire surface of the inside of the freezer and leave the lid open for a few days to dry out. We used to use it in the butcher shops to "freshen up" the meat rooms after cleaning, the smell is there for several days. I believe it has some disinfecting properties and deodorising qualities. Seeing's how you've already disinfected and bleached all you are trying to do is kill the smell, it should work but may need retreating in a few days and left open for a further couple of days!

No way, we had some friends staying at our beach house, they turned the power off to save money for us..... when I forund the freezer a month later it was just exactly how you described yours! I cut the cord off the back, popped it onto a sack truck, wheeled it into the trailer and consigned it to the tip. There is no way you will EVER get the stench out.

I'm reminded of a mate who had a foal die. At his work, they had some big chest freezers, so he popped the carcass in there until he could dispose of it properly. When he went to get it out, it was frozen solid ... of course, only the freezer had a top opening that was smaller than the freezer cavity. He couldn't get the frozen foal out. Had to wait for it to defrost
